Low FODMAP Christmas menu: Italian menu
A few years ago, we always used to pick a different country or cuisine as a theme for Christmas dinner. My mother, aunt, grandma and I would think up different dishes and we created a complete themed Christmas dinner. One of our favourite countries for Christmas dinner was Italy. We would take our Jamie Oliver books and when Christmas dinner was there, the table was full of delicious risottos, gnocchi, pasta’s and salads. I have such good memories of these times.
To give you some ideas for such an Italian Christmas menu, I have listed delicious recipes for you that can be used for an Italian themed Christmas dinner. Like this, you can make your own Italian low FODMAP Christmas menu!
Italian low FODMAP Christmas menu
Starters
Start your Italian Christmas dinner with some low FODMAP bruschetta’s. I made classic tomato bruschetta’s, but there are many different toppings that you can use.
Or what do you think about a yummy zucchini carrot soup?
Of course, I can also not leave this classic out: a simple low FODMAP carpaccio.
Mains
Risotto makes a perfect main dish for an Italian Christmas dinner. What do you think about this delicious mushroom risotto with parmesan cheese and prosciutto. Would you rather have a vegetarian risotto? This risotto with spinach pesto is also a great option.
Do you prefer fish? Then make this tomato risotto with shrimps.
Do you have some leftover risotto or fancy an Italian snack for your aperitivo or snack platter? Try these divine arancini: Italian risotto balls!
Or make mozzarella chicken in tomato sauce as your main! Perfect with truffle fries or crunchy roasted potatoes.
Or a creamy gnocchi with chicken and spinach. So tasty and great for Christmas dinner.
Pasta also makes a great main dish for your Italian Christmas dinner. My favourite is this pasta casserole with chicken and cream based on a recipe by Jamie Oliver. It is so so good!
As a side dish, you can serve an Italian salad, such as this salad with melon and parma ham.
Desserts
What is better than a classic tiramisu to end an Italian Christmas dinner? This version is low FODMAP, gluten-free and lactose-free. Do you want something a little different? This strawberry tiramisu and speculaas tiramisu are also great tiramisu options.
Another delicious Italian dessert is panna cotta. I made a version with chocolate and red fruits. Perfection!

I love the idea of Italian Christmas dinner. In the U.S. it’s traditional to do kind of the same thing as our Thanksgiving meal–turkey or ham, potatoes, stuffing, cranberries, green beans–but it’s nice to do something different. My mom’s made lasagna for Christmas a few times. π I’ll have to check out these recipes: that spinach and chicken gnocchi looks awesome!
Thank you! That’s interesting to hear, I didn’t know that! In the Netherlands people often do the same kind of thing with Christmas too. People put a hot plate grill on the table and everybody grills their own meat and they eat that with several side dishes. I prefer trying something different each year π
How wonderful..!! I am Italian & these recipes look delicious, especially mozzarella chicken in tomato sauce & the classic tiramisu… Now, I am a beginner FodMapper & usually do our traditional meatballs & spaghetti in a rich tomato sauce & I know there are many ingredients that are not allowed..garlic, onions, breadcrumbs & our usual spaghetti … In the coming months I will experiment with my classic recipes so they will comply with the FodMapper guidelines… Any suggestions, recipes , that you can offer will be greatly appreciated…. As always, Karlijn thank you for your help & your wonderful recipes….
Merry Christmas…..
